National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence Names Midlands Technical College’s Randy Nussler Instructor of the Year

MTC’s automotive technology instructor selected from more 150,000 automotive service professionals for his dedicated work in educating students, as well as for his ASE certifications
COLUMBIA, SC – The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) announced in collaboration with The Gates Corporation that Randy Nussler of Midlands Technical College is the 2014 Gates Tools for Schools/ASE Instructor of the Year.
ASE, a non-profit organization established to improve the quality of vehicle repair and service through the testing and certification of repair and service professionals, partnered with The Gates Corporation to recognize a top automotive instructor who displays commitment to the success of his or her students and to the automotive service industry.
Nussler has taught automotive technology at Midlands Technical College (MTC) for nine years. Before teaching he had been an automotive technician for 18 years. When he was younger, Nussler said he and his father worked on small engines, and his interest in the automotive industry was sparked as they worked together.
His exposure to teaching came when he was asked to help judge a high school automotive competition being hosted by MTC.
“I was interested in teaching early on and after seeing the automotive facility at the college and the resources available, I inquired about teaching a class and was given the opportunity,” said Nussler. “I have the same passion today.” Nussler said it’s gratifying for him to see his students grow throughout their academic program and eventually seeing them achieve their goals.
“It is imperative that your students know you care,” he said.
